viewing in VR and mesh textures
viewing in VR and mesh textures
Hi there, Ive got a Oculus Quest 2, but seems I couldn't get it working with CC stereo (latest kyiv) in the stereo mode,as it gave me the error message of 'failed to activate the SDK', I assume it could only be used with rift. Does anyone have any success in making it work? The other attempt I did was creating a mesh using the point cloud I imported in, and exported as an .obj file, but unfortunately, the exported .obj file had no textures on it when I tried visualise it using my VR headset. What can I do also to export the .mtl file. Thanks
Re: viewing in VR and mesh textures
Sadly, we don't have any Oculus headset anymore, so we can't support these devices anymore...
And CC only creates meshes with per-vertex colors (not with textures) which cannot be exported as OBJ file!

Re: viewing in VR and mesh textures
Actually, I think I could get it somewhat working with my Quest 2. So apart from using the oculus SDK, I also downloaded the steam VR. Then I could view it in the headset through the steam VR I suppose. But since I was dealing with a 3 GB point cloud, it is very laggy, and I could not even rotate the point cloud smoothly.
For the mesh texture, I exported the mesh as .ply file in CC, used the meshlab and followed the advice from this post by Laserbrain
https://cloudcompare-org.danielgm.net/f ... .php?t=830, and it worked.
Also, I tried to import the .ply file produced by CC in to the Leica 3DR, there are two options to import that, one is as a point cloud (i dont know why i can import ply as a point cloud though), another one as a mesh, with the mesh option, there were no textures at all, so I imported the .ply as a point cloud and re-meshed the point cloud in Leica 3DR using custom settings. This approach seems to me, a little bit better than meshing the point cloud (for example, .pts format) directly in Leica 3DR, as some holes in the mesh are filled. (So thanks for CC for fixing some holes). Then I can export the mesh from Leica 3DR with proper textures with the .pngs and .mtl.
