Triangular Mesh loses Details

I have a point cloud that loses detail when I try to create the triangular mesh. The point data is for a 2' x 2' region with 1,833,976 points. When I remove duplicate vertices the point data is reduced to 106,871 points. The problem is the detailed features are not being captured in the triangular mesh. The point data is missing some 1/4" deep grooves that are cut along the 2' x 2' length. I can forward the *.asc file of the data if anyone is interested in taking a look. .... Thanks David Dearth

Do the points have big coordinates? If yes did you accept to shift the cloud if/when CloudCompare suggested to?
