I'm a newby. I'm using CloudCompare version 2.8 64-bit Windows to display a noisy cloud that I want to clean up. Cloud displays OK, but when I try to select Tools->Clean from the menu, both menu subitems choices (SOR and Noise filter) are disabled (grayed). Likewise, just about every menu with a submenu is disabled. My cloud was loaded from a txt file. It has X, Y, Z and scalar (0-1 float) fields, about 76,000 points. I also tried version 2.9 alpha and 2.6.2 beta with similar results. I'm running Windows 10 1607. Am I missing something obvious?

You need to select the entities you want to apply the filter on before...

Even when I select the entities, My SOR filter is still greyed out.
Do you have any recommendations for this?

Is it a cloud? If yes, make sure to select the cloud entity, and not its container / parent entity.
