Cloud orientation after transfer from metashape

Post by Kati_sin »

Hello everyone!

I am currently working on cutting large transects to exact shape and need to cut them into 20x5 m. boxes. I transferred my dense clouds from metashape to cloudcompare, yet the model orientation when uploading them changes every time (tilted on birdseye view). I want to use the cross section - box cutting tool for a precisely sized box shape of the transect, yet this gets angled incorrectly due to the shift in orientation. I have no squares in my models in the exact direction of the transect to re-angle in cloudcompare. I tried uploading as las. files, and obj. files and ply. files. My GPU struggled with las. and obj. and creates "out of memory" error during any processing attempt. ply. has worked so far, but also crashes often. I have to input coordinate specifications when uploading, does the re-orientation have to do with this?

If there is a way to keep orientation or easily re-angle the model with any tools I havent figured out yet please explain.
New to the program and on a steep learning curve, any help is greatly appreciated!
Sorry if this has been asked before, I havent found any relevant thread that has solved the problem yet.

CC reads the coordinates exactly as they are stored in the file. Only a few formats can include a sensor pose matrix (PTX, etc.).

So if the cloud is not in the correct orientation when loaded from LAS or OBJ, then you should look at metashape to understand why it's not in the right position.
