I am doing research using LiDAR to make measurements. What does intensity mean in CloudCompare? Do you mean reflection intensity?

Hi,

'intensity' is generally just the name of the scalar field, as it's saved in the input file. CloudCompare doesn't know how each scalar field is generated. It manages scalar fields in a generic way.

Generally it's the laser reflectance, but the units and the post-processing applied to it are not necessarily obvious.

Some formats describe what 'intensity' is in a more precise way. For instance LAS or E57. But in each case you'll have to refer to the specification of these formats (and hope the specifications are respected ;). Manufacturers such as Faro or Riegl also have their own definition of 'intensity' that would apply to their proprietary formats.
