calculating cut and fill volume

Post by jebika »

Hello,

I need to calculate an approximate of soil cut or fill volume.
I have a model of current conditon (obtained through photogrammetry, exported as textured mesh model) an a 3D CAD model of the planned design.

I overlayed them, selected both entities but the option of 'compute 2.5D volume' in tools > volume was unavailable (grey colored, unable to choose).
And when I tried with 'edit > mesh > measure volume', nothing happens.
I tried also with point cloud not mesh but the same thing occured. The least i can do now is to get the distance between the cloud and design model.
(attached is the file i use: https://79.gigafile.nu/1029-g7872f068b9 ... 0854826e5c)

I am quite new to this so I would appreciate if anyone could point out which step did I missed or if there is another way to get the cut and fill volume.

Thank you!
Regards, Jevi

The 2.5D Volume calculation tool only works on (dense) clouds. So you first have to convert your meshes to dense clouds (with 'Edit > Mesh > Sample points').

Also, your meshes (or clouds) should be 2.5D. Which means that there can't be 2 points or more at the same XY coordinate. Not sure this is the case here... This might give wrong results.

And last, about the Mesh volume calculation tool, it only works on closes meshes, and you should see the volume in the Console at the bottom.
