I was wondering what method(s) are available for exporting contours (shapefile) into AutoCAD?

I can properly generate and subsequently export the contours into my CAD software, but I don't know how to accurately place them into the drawing. Since they are shapefiles, I have no way to align them to the drawing aside from overlaying a screenshot from CloudCompare and massaging them into place.

Is there a better way of doing this, or do I need an extra layer of GIS information in both CC and CAD?

And what about DXF export?

(I'm not a GIS nor a CAD expert, so I personally won't be able to help you much...)
